NHL Notes: New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils called up goaltender Scott Wedgewood yesterday from their AHL affiliate Albany Devils. With star netminder Cory Schneider out of the lineup, and Keith Kinkaid needing some rest, the Devils put Wedgewood into the game as the starter against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Wedgewood made 27 saves in his NHL debut en route to the victory, 2-1, ove the Blue Jackets.

The Devils also called up Vojtech Mozik from their AHL affiliate. The 23 year-old defenseman has played in 49 games with Albany this season, notching 14 points (2 goals, 12 assists), with a plus-26. Mozik played just over ten minutes in his first NHL game, recording one shot on goal and one hit.

In a corresponding move, the Devils sent goaltender Yann Danis to Albany. The 34 year-old journeyman netminder has seen two games of action with New Jersey this season. He's played 40 games with Albany and has put up a 2.28 GAA there. He was up with New Jersey primarily as a backup for Keith Kinkaid, while Schneider is hurt. The Devils most likely want to get Wedgewood as much playing time as possible, but would like to have him up with their NHL squad as well. He may wind up platooning with Kinkaid until Schneider returns to the ice.
