Stamkos Trade Not Happening Before Trade Deadline, per Yzerman

Steven Stamkos will not be traded prior to February 29.  That was made clear recently by Tampa Bay Lightning General Manager, Steve Yzerman, as reported by NBC Sports.  Yzerman was quoted as saying:
“I have said repeatedly that it is our hope to reach an agreement with Steven on a new contract at some point, and with 27 games remaining in the season, our entire organization, Steven included, wants to focus on making the playoffs.
There's been much speculation that Stamkos will be traded to his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs.  And the trade of defenseman Dion Phaneuef, along with the cap space cleared by the trade, further fueled that speculation.

Stamkos could still wind up as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.  But if that happens it will most likely come via free agency this summer, rather than a trade.
