Penguins Sign Sestito

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed winger Tom Sestito to a one-year, two-way deal, carrying a $575,000 cap hit as reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  The big veteran forward was with Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins on a professional tryout basis.  In 19 games with the baby Penguins this season, Sestito has six points (2 goals, 4 assists) as well as 35 penalty minutes.  In additional Penguins news:

  • The team has announced that they have called up forward Conor Sheary, along with Scott Wilson.   Sheary has previously spent 16 games with Pittsburgh putting up three points (2 goals, 1 assist).  In 30 games with Wilkes-Barre / Scranton this season he's notched an impressive 36 points (7 goals, 29 assists).  
  • Defenseman Kris Letang, who excelled in the All-Star festivities over the weekend, was named the third-star for month of January by the NHL according to the team's site.  Letang has led all defenseman in scoring for the month of January with 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists) in 10 games.  Letang's offensive output has helped propel the Penguins into eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings, as the team posted their best record for a month this season (6-2-3).
