NHL Recalls: Oilers, Islanders, Senators, Wild, Predators, Capitals

Griffin Reinhart and Zack Kassian were both called up by the Edmonton Oilers as reported by the Edmonton Journal.  The Oilers will have a full roster now, post the All-Star respite, and Bruce McCurdy of the Journal ponders what will happen when defenseman Brandon Davidson returns from injured reserve.  The thought is that the Oilers will most likely keep Davidson as he's one of the team's top six defensemen.  One of the interesting suggestions is that young defender Darnell Nurse could be sent to the team's AHL affiliate Bakersfield Condors for some development time.  The number 7 overall draft pick has played well, however, considering his full body of work, with 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists) in 41 games.  It is intimated that he has struggled of late, and the development time would suit him, and the team, well.  In additional post All-Star break call-ups:

  • The New York Islanders have called up defenseman Scott Mayfield. The second round draft pick in the 2011 NHL draft has played at the NHL level for two games this season.  In 38 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL, Mayfield has six points (3 goals, 3 assists).
  • The Ottawa Senators have called up both Max McCormick and Dave Dziurzynski from their AHL affiliate Binghamton Senators.  The left-shooting Dziurzynski has been with Ottawa for 12 games previously this season picking up three points (all assists).  He's fared very well at the AHL level, notching 18 points (7 goals, 11 assists) in 31 contests.  McCormick has played in 18 games previously with Ottawa, registering four points (2 goals, 2 assists).  At the AHL level he has 12 points (8 goals, 4 assists) in 24 games.
  • The Minnesota Wild have called up defenseman Christian Folin from their AHL affiliate Iowa Wild as reported in the Minnesota Star Tribune.  In 14 previous games at the NHL level this season, Folin has two assists.  While playing with Iowa he's picked up 9 points (3 goals, 6 assists) in 15 games.
  • The Nashville Predators have recalled forward Viktor Arvidsson from their AHL affiliate Milwaukee Admirals as noted at the blog On The Forecheck.  In 24 games with the big club this season, Arvidsson has notched five points (3 goals, 2 assists).  Arvidsson was last with the Predators on January 12.
  • The Washington Capitals called up pivot Zach Sill as reported by the Washington Post.  With center Marcus Johansson suffering an injury in the Caps last game prior to the All-Star break and listed at "day-to-day", along with forward Alex Ovechkin suspended for one game due to missing the All-Star game, Sill's services were required with Washington.  Sill has a goal in seven previous games with the Capitals, while registering nine points (2 goals, 7 assists) in 35 games with Washington's AHL affiliate Hershey Bears this season.
