New York Rangers Complete Trade for Eric Staal

The New York Rangers completed a trade for centerman Eric Staal on Sunday, as reported on the team's twitter feed.

Eric Staal is one of the top forwards set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.  As such, he can be viewed as a rental for the playoffs push by the Rangers.  However, he could very well click with the team, and his younger brother on the Rangers, Marc Staal, and be signed to a long term contract.

The 31 year-old has 33 points in 63 games this season with the Carolina Hurricanes.  Staal's full year cap hit is $8.25 million.  The Hurricanes will retain 50% of Staal's salary.
