Kings Trade for Kris Versteeg

As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Kings have traded for Kris Versteeg from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Valentin Zykov and a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2016.

The deal was made possible under the cap by the Kings putting Marian Gaborik on injured reserve this past Friday.

The conditions surrounding the fifth-round draft pick this season are believed to be related to the number of games played by Versteeg and the success of the Kings in the playoffs, although this has not been confirmed.
The 29 year-old Versteeg has a full season cap hit of $4.4 million, of which $2.2 million is retained by a previous team of his, the Florida Panthers, according to capfriendly.com.  Versteeg is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

In 63 games with the Carolina Hurricanes, Versteeg has notched 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) this season.
The 20 year-old Zykov, who was a second round draft pick of the Kings in 2013, has played in 43 games with the Ontario Reign of the AHL this season, scoring 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists).
