Gaborik on IR, Leafs Call Up Leipsic, Morin

The Los Angeles Kings have placed forward Marian Gaborik on injured reserve as reported by the Los Angeles Times.  Gaborik suffered the injury after a knee-to-knee collision with Dominic Moore of the New York Rangers in Friday's game.  With two extra forwards, the Kings weren't expected to make an immediate call up from their AHL affiliate Manchester Monarchs. Gaborik's absence will be felt however, has he has put up 22 points (12 goals, 10 assists) in 54 games so far this season.  In additional NHL transaction news:

  • Centerman Brendan Leipsic was called up by the Toronto Maple Leafs and immediately helped his team, scoring his first NHL goal in his first NHL game, as reported by the Pension Plan Puppets blog.  The 21 year-old had been toiling with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL where he has 34 points (14 goals, 20 assists) in 47 games this season.  
  • Jeremy Morin was also called up by the Leafs on an emergency basis.  The 24 year-old, as The Province reports, was traded from the Chicago Blackhawks organization on January 3, where he was playing with their AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs, to the Toronto organization, where he suited up with the Marlies for 11 games prior to this call up.
