Bruins and Devils: Call Ups and IR

The Boston Bruins have called up goaltender Malcolm Subban and winger David Pastrnak as reported by NESN.  Subban was called up on an emergency basis due to backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson being placed on injured reserve. Gustavsson left last Tuesday's game against the Anaheim Ducks with an elevated heart rate.  He was placed on injured reserve while Boston awaits the results of his medical tests.  In 26 games with Providence at the AHL level, Subban has put up a .913 save percentage and 2.45 GAA.  Pastrnak, a first round draft pick by the Bruins in 2014, has seen 18 games of action with Boston this season, notching 9 points (5 goals, 4 assists).  In three games with Providence, Pastrnak garnered four points (1 goal, 3 assists).

The New Jersey Devils have called up three players in Seth Helgeson, Reid Boucher and Joseph Blandisi. Defenseman Helgeson, along with most of the recently recalled players, was presumably sent down to the AHL for some playing time during the All-Star break, before being recalled post the break.  Helgeson will be one of six defenseman on the New Jersey roster.  Boucher has been sniping at the AHL level with 17 goals and 12 assists in 32 games.  His offense will be welcomed with New Jersey making a push to the playoffs.  In 8 games previously with the big club this season, Boucher has notched three points (2 goals, 1 assist).  The tough-playing Blandisi has previously spent time with New Jersey this season as well, where he has put up a goal and five assists in 11 games.  With the Albany Devils, he has notched 7 goals and 14 assists in 24 contests.  As noted by Tom Gulitti on the Fire and Ice blog, the Devils have also placed forward Mike Cammalleri on injured reserve with what is being called an "upper body injury".  With the injured reserve move being made retroactive to last Tuesday's game in Pittsburgh, the earliest that Cammalleri will be able to come back to play is on Thursday.  With Cammalleri out, Boucher's goal-scoring skill will be relied upon to fill the void.
