Philadelphia Flyers Name Hakstol as Head Coach

The Philadelphia Flyers have named Dave Hakstol as their new head coach according to NHL.com. Hakstol spent 11 seasons at the helm for North Dakota's collegiate hockey team which has had much success in recent times. According to the article on NHL.com, a move of this type is not very common.
The last coach to go directly from the college ranks to the NHL without any previous NHL experience was Bob Johnson, who was hired by the Calgary Flames from the University of Wisconsin in 1981. Previous to that the Detroit Red Wings had hired Ned Harkness from Cornell University in 1970.

Hakstol will become the Flyers' 19th head coach as reported at philly.com.
