Oilers Announce McLellan as Head Coach

As expected, the Edmonton Oilers announced Todd McClellan as their new head coach as reported on TSN. The agreement is a five year deal. The Edmonton Journal has published a good overview of McLellan's NHL a career. It notes that the former San Jose Sharks head coach was the second fastest NHL head coach to reach 300 career regular-season wins trailing only Bruce Boudreau.

The Edmonton Oilers and general manager Peter Chiarelli got the man they wanted for the head coach position as evidenced by this quote at NHL.com:
"Todd was at the top of my list for a number of reasons," Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli said. "I thought the fit was right with our personnel. I thought the fit was right with the way I manage, and in this business when you want to get a top coach, you have to act quickly.
