Capitals Recall Schmidt

The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Nate Schmidt from their AHL affiliate in Hershey as tweeted by Mike Morreale of NHL.com.

Schmidt had 4 points in 39 games with the Capitals this season and in 19 games with the Hershey Bears he put up 9 points.

The recall move is believed to be largely insurance for an injured Tim Gleason. According to an article in the Washington Post, Schmidt will take warm-ups with the Capitals before game 3 against the Rangers, and if Gleason is deemed healthy enough to play that game, Schmidt will be reassigned to the Bears as they compete in the AHL Calder Cup playoffs against the Hartford Wolfpack.
