Babcock Speaking To Teams

The Detroit Red Wings have granted permission to head coach Mike Babcock to speak with other NHL teams, as reported on ProHockeyTalk. To speak with Babcock, teams will need to sign a letter of intent that binds them to give the Red Wings a third round draft pick within the next three seasons if they hire Babcock, per a recent article by Ansar Khan. It's expected that the Wings and GM Ken Holland will know within a few weeks whether Babcock will be coaching a new team or remaining with the Red Wings. Babcock has been with Detroit since 2005 and has much success with his squads there. There are a handful of NHL teams looking for a head coach who would no doubt be interested in his services at the relatively low asking price of a third round draft pick.
