Dallas Stars GM on the NHL Trade Market

The Dallas Stars GM, Jim Nill, oversees a team that arguably made the biggest trade of 2013 in acquiring a young goal-scorer from Boston. Nill recently spoke with the Dallas Morning News and offered insight into the NHL trade environment.

“Every day we come to work, we’re trying to get better,’’ he said. “We’re all making calls, we’re all talking to each other. We’re in a highly competitive business, we’re all trying to win, and we’re all trying to get the best deal we can.’’

This season, the trade market is viewed as a tight one, with a lowered salary cap and many teams still in contention for the playoffs.

It is interesting to note that the Stars, like most teams you would expect, are looking not only at their own cap situation, prospect pool and playoff considerations, but those of every other NHL team in the event of a trade proposal occurring.
