Martin Erat Trade Request Confirmed

Martin Erat has confirmed a trade request according to NHL.com.  Erat was traded by the Nashville Predators to the Washington Capitals during the 2012-13 season in exchange for prospect Filip Forsberg.  It was recently expressed by the Czech forward that he has not been given the chance to perform as a member of the Caps.

When he took to the ice for the Predators his offensive skill was evident, borne out by his statistics.  Over 723 regular season games with the Preds since the 2001-02 season, Erat notched 481 points.  His skill did not seem to be diminishing, again as his stats show.  In 2011-12, his last full season with Nashville, Erat put up 58 points, an NHL career high for him.

Erat had expectations of being a top-six forward for the Capitals, but has not seen an average of more than 15 minutes of ice-time per game, according to rotoworld.com.  After averaging nearly 18 minutes of ice time per game over the past several seasons for Nashville, Erat's average TOI for Washington has been just over 13 minutes.

The 32 year-old winger is under contract through the 2014-15 NHL season, at an annual cap hit of $4.5 million.
