Tim Thomas Signs With Florida Panthers - One-Year Deal

Tim Thomas has signed a one-year contract with the Florida Panthers, as reported by ESPN.  Thomas had previously been on a professional tryout with the Panthers during the preseason.  The two-time Vezina winning netminder took a year off, just two years removed from winning the Stanley Cup as the Boston Bruins starting goalie.

Thomas' contract carries a $3.75 million cap hit, with $2.5 million in salary and $1.25 million in bonuses, as well as a no-movement clause.

Thomas got his first start in net for Florida in a preseason game on Thursday night, playing into the second period, and leaving the game with a 2-1 lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Florida Panthers will eventually have to address their crowded net with Thomas, Jacob Markstrom and Scott Clememnsen all on the roster.  It's expected that Clemmensen will initially go to the minors on a rehab assignment, but will eventually vie for time with Thomas and Markstrom.
