NHL Snap Shots: New Jersey, Clutterbuck, Talbot

Damien Brunner will be making his first start in a professional tryout with the New Jersey Devils this evening, as they take on the New York Islanders, according to Rich Chere at nj.com.  Brunner scored 26 points in 44 regular season games with the Detroit Red Wings last season, and also notched a healthy nine points in 14 post-season games.  Also for New Jersey, Scott Wedgewood will most likely see time in net, backing up starter Martin Brodeur for this pre-season contest.

  • The New York Islanders will be without newly acquired Cal Clutterbuck after he suffered a laceration from a skate in their pre-season opener, according to newsday.com.  Clutterbuck was picked up by the Islanders in a trade with the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Nino Niederreiter.
  • Alain Vigneault has stated that potential New York Rangers' backup goaltender Cam Talbot has "progressed quite a bit", according to a recent article in the New York Times.  Talbot is vying for backup netminder duties along with veteran Martin Biron.
