NHL Snap Shots: Downie, Iginla, Brunner, Bissonnette

Steve Downie, who is projected to play right wing on a line with number one overall draft pick Nathan MacKinnon for the Colorado Avalanche according to NHL.com, is set to play a pivotal role this season. Acquired by Colorado from the Tampa Bay Lightning via trade in February, 2012, Downie played in two 2012-13 regular season games before suffering a torn ACL.

  • Although Jarome Iginla may have spurned the Boston Bruins for the Pittsburgh Penguins when considering a trade from the Calgary Flames last season, he is certainly off to a good start now that he has joined Boston via free agency.  In his first game with the Bruins, albeit a pre-season one, Iginla lit the lamp twice for his Boston teammates, making a good first impression.

  • Damien Brunner, formerly of the Detroit Red Wings, will be joining the New Jersey Devils on a professional tryout basis for their training camp.

  • Yahoo! Sports reports that Phoenix Coyotes forward Paul Bissonnette has been suspended, as mandatory, for ten regular season games, after leaving the bench during a pre-season fight.
