New Jersey Trades Barch to Florida for Timmins

The New Jersey Devils have traded forward Krys Barch and a seventh round draft pick in 2015 to the Florida Panthers in exchange for center Scott Timmins and a sixth round draft pick in 2014.  Barch was one of New Jersey's enforcers and his trade leaves the Devils with one remaining enforcer in Cam Janssen.

According to the Fire and Ice blog at northjersey.com, the trade was related to the need to trim NHL rosters to 23 players by Monday, September 30.

This is the second time that Barch has been traded to the Florida Panthers, after being sent South in December of 2011 by the Dallas Stars.  The 33 year old Barch is under contract through the 2013-14 season, at a salary and cap hit of $750,000.

The Florida Panthers had a need for an enforcer after they traded George Parros north of the border to the Montreal Canadiens.

The 24 year old Scott Timmins was taken by the Panthers in the sixth round of the 2009 NHL draft, and has seen ice time in 24 regular season games, scoring one goal.  Timmins will reportedly be sent to New Jersey's AHL affiliate Albany Devils.
