Matt Read Extension With Philadelphia Flyers - 4 Yrs, $14.5M

It wasn't long ago that Matt Read led all NHL rookies in goals.  In his first year with the Philadelphia Flyers, Read put 24 pucks in the net, to go along with 23 assists, in 79 regular season contests.  Read wound up fourth in the Calder Trophy voting, behind Gabriel Landeskog, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Adam Henrique.

Proving it was no fluke, Read notched 11 goals and 13 helpers in the lockout-shortened regular season, over 42 games in which he saw ice time.

Those performances led the Flyers to extend Matt Read for four more years.  According to NHL.com, Read's contract with Philly is worth $14.5M overall, coming in at $3.625M in annual-average-value.  He will finish up his existing contract in its final year, at a $900K cap hit, before his new contract kicks in for the 2014-15 season.
