Alex Pietrangelo Signed by St. Louis Blues

Alex Pietrangelo would not have his rights traded or be signed to another team's offer sheet.  St. Louis Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong made that very clear.  As quoted at NHL.com, Armstrong stated earlier this month:
"We've kept enough cap space to address any team that thinks that they can poach him from us; that won't happen," Armstrong said. "He'll be a St. Louis Blue whether it's this weekend, two weeks, two months, a year from now. Time will tell, but we hope to get him done as quick as possible."
True to his word, Armstrong on the Blues signed Alex Pietrangelo to a seven year deal worth a hefty $45.5 million, carrying an annual average value of $6.5 million per season.  Pietrangelo had played up to his entry-level deal worth $9.675 million over three years, as the defenseman scored 121 points in 224 regular season games.

Including the new Pietrangelo contract, the Blues now have $26,421,667 in cap hit money for seven defensemen according to capgeek.com.  Collectively, St. Louis is just over $1 million under the cap for 2013-14, with a significant drop coming next season due to pending free agents, including Derek Roy, and both goaltenders:  Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott.
