Jay Bouwmeester Signs Extension with St. Louis Blues

Jay Bouwmeester recently signed a five-year contract extension with the St. Louis Blues worth a reported $27 million according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  The extension takes effect in 2014-15. Bouwmeester, who was traded to St. Louis from the Calgary Flames in 2013, seemed to adjust well to the Blues organization.  As quoted in the Post-Dispatch article:
"When I got there, it seemed like a good fit, a good spot and it's somewhere that I think I want to be for a while."
The big defenseman who hails from Edmonton, and was the third overall draft pick of the Florida Panthers in 2002, will turn 30 years old right before the start of the 2013-14 NHL season.  He has contributed 307 points in 764 regular season games since his first NHL appearance during the 2002-03 season.  In 14 games with the Blues, after last season's trade, he picked up 7 points during the regular season.
