New Jersey Devils Sign Jaromir Jagr

The New Jersey Devils have officially signed Jaromir Jagr to a one-year deal worth a reported $2 million, and another $2 million in performance incentives according to Andrew Gross on the Fire and Ice blog.  The 41 year-old forward had a strong 2012-13, scoring 16 goals and 19 assists during the regular season split between the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins.

The loss of Ilya Kovalchuk made this signing that much more important for the New Jersey Devils.  Jagr brings not only scoring prowess, but a wealth of knowledge and an acclaimed work ethic to the ice.  As reported on Fire and Ice:
Beyond his impressive career statistics, what his new Devils’ teammates will discover is that behind the wide smile and goofy sense of humor is a player who still trains harder off the ice than most.
Jagr will be playing for his seventh NHL team over his illustrious career which began with the 1990-91 season as a Pittsburgh Penguin.  He currently sits 10th on the all-time NHL goals-scored list, and if he stays healthy for the 2013-14 season, he will likely pass Mario Lemieux, Steve Yzerman and Mark Messier on the  ladder.
