Slava Voynov Agrees to New Deal with Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings and Slava Voynov have agreed to a six-year deal as reported by ESPN.  The 23 year-old defenseman was coming off a 3 year entry level deal valued at ~$2.5 million over three seasons.  His new deal with the Kings is expected to be worth $25 million over six years according to ESPN.

The young defenseman scored more than half a point per game in this past regular season.  He was strong in the playoffs as well, notching 13 points in 18 games, six of them being goals.

This past campaign was considered a breakout season for Voynov according to foxsportswest.com.  According to the article:
This, by all accounts, was a breakout season for the 23-year-old Russian, who shouldered increased responsibility because of injuries to defensemen Willie Mitchell and Matt Greene. He had six goals and 25 points, playing in all 48 games of the lockout-shortened season.

Yahoo! Sports also reports that Voynov set a Los Angeles Kings single-season franchise record in the playoffs this year with six playoff goals and four game-winning goals.

The Kings will need to next set their sights on fellow blueliner and upcoming restricted free agent Jake Muzzin.
