Pavel Datsyuk Agrees on Contract Extension with Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings have agreed with center Pavel Datsyuk to a three year contract extension according to foxsports.com.  The contract will be officially signed on or after July 5, when free agency opens this year, per the report.  Datsyuk was entering the final year of his previous contract, which was for seven years at $6.7 million per year according to capgeek.com.  His new contract looks to be a front-loaded deal worth $23 million over three years.

Datsyuk has been a steady presence offensively for the Red Wings, averaging about a point per game during the regular season over the past several years.  The two-time Stanley Cup Champion and three-time Selke Award winner (the best defensive forward), has historically performed well in the playoffs for Detroit as well, with plus-34 in the postseason for his career.
