NHL Notes: Loktionov Signing Imminent, Third Overall Draft Pick

Tom Gulitti reports on the Fire and Ice blog that the New Jersey Devils will have a deal imminently with free agent Andrei Loktionov.  Loktionov came over to New Jersey in a mid-season trade this year with the Los Angeles Kings.  It is suspected that Loktionov's deal is being done earlier than it might have been, based on the decision he has to make on whether to play in Russia or return to the NHL.  The 28-year-old forward had 12 points in 28 games for the Devils this past season.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will be selecting third overall in the 2013 NHL entry draft.  Although the third overall pick hasn't necessarily panned out perfectly for Tampa Bay, it has historically produced NHL star talent when looked at holistically, according to the team's website.  The third slot has been used to select the following NHL players in recent years:  Alex Galchenyuk (2012), Jonathan Huberdeau (2011), and Matt Duchene (2009).
