NHL Contract Updates: Smith and Coyotes, Letang and Penguins

Goaltender Mike Smith has a deal in the works to remain with the Phoenix Coyotes.  According to reports, the Coyotes and Smith are working out the details of a six-year $34 million contract extension.  Smith is one of the top goaltenders on this year's unrestricted free agent list.   Smith had a breakout campaign with the Coyotes in 2011-12 when he put up 38 wins in 67 regular season starts, to go with a .930 save percentage.

It's also being reported that defenseman Kris Letang is close to coming to an extension agreement with the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Reports have indicated that the contract is for the maximum length and valued at $58 million.
