Michael Del Zotto Should Stay with New York Rangers at Trade Deadline

According to Larry Brooks at nypost.com, the New York Rangers are looking to add a right-shooting defenseman and some depth at wing.  Brooks indicates that Michael Del Zotto is the Rangers most marketable commodity.  He also thinks that it's hard to see New York coming out ahead on any transaction involving Del Zotto, as he has been one of their best blueliners, particularly on the offensive side of the puck.

Del Zotto is signed through the 2013-14 season, with an annual cap hit of $2.55 million according to capgeek.com.  The 22-year-old defenseman put ten pucks in the net last season while assisting on 31 more scores.  He's on a similar pace this season with three goals and nine assists through 27 contests.

With the Rangers in contention for a playoff spot, and the standings so close in this lockout-shortened season, it is doubtful that New York would let go of such a young significant asset as Del Zotto.
