2013 NHL Free Agents - Ryan Clowe

Ryan Clowe, the sixth round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks in the 2001 NHL draft, is coming due as an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2012-13 season and is one of the top players available in free agency according to usatoday.com.

The last three seasons have been productive for Clowe, particularly in the assists column.  This season, to-date, he has continued to set his teammates up to score, but has not put any pucks in the net himself.

The 30-year old winger is currently making $4 million and is a $3.625 million cap hit according to capgeek.com, for the San Jose Sharks.

Outlook
The Sharks will be tight under next year's reduced cap.  According to capgeek.com, they are currently projected to be about $10 million under the 2013-14 cap, but....they have seven unrestricted free agents currently on their roster, including Clowe, as well as five restricted free agents.  I wouldn't expect a trade, especially because the Sharks have been competitive this season and Clowe is a valuable offensive player, but I also wouldn't expect San Jose to sign Clowe at his current salary level for an extended period of time given their cap constraints.
