2013 NHL Free Agents - David Clarkson

David Clarkson, the New Jersey Devils forward hailing from Toronto, is currently receiving a salary of $3 million this year, although his cap hit is a bit less, and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2013, according to capgeek.com.

Clarkson had a reputation for being a hard-nosed scrappy player prior to the two most recent seasons.  In addition to that tab, he's also gotten the label of goal-scorer, as he notched 30 goals last season, and had 11 through 28 games this season.

Outlook
The Devils would no doubt like to keep Clarkson, especially given his recent offensive surge. The team is projected to have about $25 million of cap space available to sign multiple free agents next year.  Clarkson will be on the list along with Dainius Zubrus and Patrik Elias.  Elias is not going anywhere, he will be a New Jersey Devil next year at a salary similar to what he is making currently ($6 million annually).  David Clarkson has said previously that his favorite place to play is Toronto, so it would not be a shock to see him wind up as a Maple Leaf next year.  But Lou Lamoriello has a way of getting players to stay in New Jersey, if he wants them to.
