What if the Calgary Flames Trade Jarome Iginla to the Vancouver Canucks?

Is it possible?  Jarome Iginla, the "eternal" Calgary Flame wearing a Vancouver Canuck jersey?  In today's salary cap NHL, anything is possible.

The Vancouver Canucks are doing quite well with both Cory Schneider and Roberto Luongo in net.  But they could always get by with one goalie, if they were to get a good trade offer from another team.

The Calgary Flames need a goaltender.  They currently sit at minus 4 in the goal differential column, while the team sits at the bottom of the Northwest division.  And their top netminder, Miikka Kiprusoff is out with an injury.  They do have a backup in Leland Irving, and they just signed Danny Taylor.  But what if they had an All-Star quality goalie?   Could they compete for the division?

Yes, they would have to give up one of their icons.  Yes, they would have to give up a piece of their offense.  But, they would get one of the best goalies in the league, and a probable decrease in their team goals against average.

And, don't forget that Jarome Iginla will be a free agent after this season.

Could the Flames and Canucks make this trade?  Yes.  Would this trade benefit the Flames immediately?   Likely.  Will they make this trade?  Don't count on it.
