Roberto Luongo to be Traded to Washington Capitals?

Bob McKenzie tweets that Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis is at today's Washington Capitals vs Pittsburgh Penguins game. The Washington Capitals have struggled early this season, and it could just be that they are looking for an established goaltender with the pedigree that Roberto Luongo has. A good bet to be included in any trade for Luongo would be current Capital Mike Ribeiro, who will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

A look at the NHL Standings on Yahoo! Sports shows that the Capitals are -9 in the goals for/against differential column.  Only two teams have a lower goal differential currently, the Columbus Blue Jackets at -10 and the Florida Panthers at -11.  So, an established All-Star goaltender would certainly would not hurt Washington.

Roberto Luongo would not be a silver bullet for Washington's woes however.  They need offense badly.  The Capitals are currently near the bottom of the league in the goals-for column.
