NHL Updates: Loktionov, Ponikarovsky and Karlsson

The New Jersey Devils needed to free up a roster spot to accommodate the reacquired Alexei Ponikarovsky. As such, according to Tom Gulitti on Fire and Ice, Andrei Loktionov has been sent back to the Albany Devils of the AHL.

It appears that the Ottawa Senators will be missing a key component of their team for this season, as ESPN.com reports that Norris Trophy winning defenseman Erik Karlsson will undergo surgery to repair a cut Achilles' tendon suffered in a recent game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
