Dallas Stars Trade For Erik Cole, Give Montreal Michael Ryder and Draft Pick

Erik Cole was sent to the Dallas Stars by the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, in exchange for Michael Ryder and a third round draft pick in 2013.  The Stars General Manager, Joe Nieuwendyk indicated that he was a player who could immediately help their team.

Cole is under contract for two more years at $4 million per year.  Ryder meanwhile, will become an unrestricted free agent after the current season.

Goals have come at a premium for Cole this season, as he has notched three in 20 fames to go with three assists. Ryder meanwhile has six scores in 10 games to go with eight assists.

This is a case where Dallas must have thought that Cole would return to his productive ways with a change of scenery. The added benefit is that he is a player under contract for two more seasons, while Ryder will be looking for a new deal after this campaign.
