2013 NHL Free Agents - Brenden Morrow

Brenden Morrow will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2013 NHL season, unless re-signed by the Dallas Stars, according to records at capgeek.com.  The first round draft pick of the Dallas Stars in the 1997 NHL draft is at the end of a 6 year deal worth $24.6 million in total.

The winger has been fairly consistent over his NHL career with the Stars in an offensive capacity, notching almost as many goals as assists in each regular season.  According to hockey-reference.com, Morrow has 240 career goals and 284 career assists in his NHL regular season experience with Dallas as of this post, which consists of 821 games played as a Star.

Dallas is currently projected to have $25 million of cap space, according to capgeek.com, for next season, even considering the new lower cap of $64.3 million.  This being said, Dallas has several unrestricted free agents coming up after this season including Morrow, Jaromir Jagr, Derek Roy, Michael Ryder and Eric Nystrom.

Outlook
Given the amount of cap room the Stars will have in 2013-14, and the fact that one of their key free agents may not even play in the NHL next season (Jaromir Jagr), the Stars should have the financial resources to sign Morrow for a few more seasons.  Look for Morrow to remain with the Dallas Stars.
