Vancouver Signs Alex Edler

ESPN.com reports that the Vancouver Canucks have signed Alex Edler to a 6 year extension tabbed at $30 million.  The defenseman, taken in the third round of the 2004 NHL draft, has scored 184 points with a plus 33 on-ice in his six regular seasons with the Canucks.

Edler was set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2013-14, so securing his services was obviously a priority for Vancouver GM Mike Gillis and Canucks management.

According to capgeek.com the Canucks have nine players set to become unrestricted free agents after the 2013 season.
