NHL News and Rumors

As expected, Tomas Holmstrom announced his retirement from the Red Wings NHL. According to the Detroit Free Press:
Holmstrom posted 530 points in 1,026 games. He scored 243 goals, most of them with his back to the net, many of them tip-ins demonstrating his incredible hand-to-eye coordination. Season after season he showed what incredible willpower can do.

Yahoo! Sports reports that Martin Brodeur recorded his 120th career shutout in net for the New Jersey Devils with their 3-0 victory over the Flyers yesterday. According to Tom Gulitti on Twitter this was Brodeur's 10th shutout against the Flyers.

CBSsports.com reports that there have been internal discussions regarding Wayne Gretzky becoming the Toronto Maple Leafs next President. That would certainly be a union of two NHL stalwarts. Gretzky hasn't been in an NHL management role since 2009, when he was head coach and head of hockey operations for the Phoenix Coyotes.
