Forwards Swapped by Eastern Conference Foes

Two minor league forwards were swapped by Eastern Conference teams today according to ESPN. Benn Ferriero was acquired by the New York Rangers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday in exchange for Chad Kolarik. The Penguins had previously signed Ferriero to a one-year deal in July of 2012. Kolarik had previously been traded to the Rangers from the Columbus Blue Jackets in November of 2010 and missed the 2010-11 season due to an ACL injury.

Ferriero was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes but did not sign with them.  He inked with the San Jose Sharks as a free agent in 2009 and played in 92 games with the franchise through the 2011-12 season.

Kolarik was also drafted by the Coyotes, in 2004, and played with their AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage after completing his collegiate career at the University of Michigan in 2007-08.  He was traded by the Coyotes to the Blue Jackets in early 2010, where he played in two regular season NHL games, before getting traded to the Rangers the next season (but same year - 2010).
