5 Game Rule: Yakupov, Hamilton, Matteau and Huberdeau

The 10 game rule for Juniors is set at no more than 5 games due to the lockout-shortened season.  Some of the teenagers that will be affected by this rule, according to the Slap Shot blog of the New York Times, are:
As most teams will be hitting the 5 game mark this weekend, decisions will need to be made on whether to keep these young stars on the teams' NHL rosters.  If kept past five games, the first year of the player's contract will have kicked in. 

Looking at data from, there are ten players that currently fall into consideration for this rule.  Of these, through Saturday's games, three of them have less than ten minutes of ice time, which could be an indicator that they will be sent back to the minors.  These three players are:  Stefan Matteau, Rickard Rakell, and Mark Scheifele

According to the post on Slap Shot, it sounds as if Huberdeau will be sent back, based on the history of the Florida Panthers organization.  For the rest of these future stars, we'll have to wait and see what decisions are made this weekend.
