2013 NHL Free Agents - Mike Ribeiro

Mike Ribeiro is currently set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2013 NHL season. According to data at capgeek.com Ribeiro is at the end of a five year contract paying him $5 million annually with the Washington Capitals.

In 74 games last season, the center had 63 points. He will be 33 when he becomes a free agent, but still has a lot of scoring capability. Washington has gotten off to a poor start this season and that could factor in to where Ribeiro winds up next season. If they can work out a suitable extension prior to season's end, they would probably like to keep Ribeiro's production on their roster. As it stands right now, with the Capitals playing poorly, don't rule out a late season trade for a young player or draft picks.

Mike Riberio's career stats from hockey-reference.com:
Outlook
While much depends on the Capitals 2013 performance as a team, Ribeiro has been in Washington for just two seasons after a long stint with Dallas. So he shouldn't be expected to have team loyalty per se. If the Capitals want Ribeiro long term, they will need to put a quality offer on the table quickly.  They are currently slated to be $20.39 million under next season's salary cap according to capgeek.com, so they do have room to sign Ribeiro.  If the Caps are out of the playoff hunt, they would likely move Ribeiro.  If not, they'll be one of the many teams looking to sign him for 2013-14 and beyond.
