2013 NHL Free Agent Review - Jarome Iginla

Jarome Iginla - The Edmonton native and current Calgary Flame will become a free agent after the 2013 season, concluding a 5 year, $35 million dollar contract with the Flames according to capgeek.com.  The veteran forward is not young by pro hockey standards, at 35 years old, but he can still produce like a younger player.  In 2011-12, Iginla notched 67 points in 82 games.  He has scored more than 50 points in every Flames season since 1998-99.

Iginla's Career Regular Season Stats Through 1/27/2013 (courtesy of hockey-reference.com):

It was reported earlier this month by the Calgary Sun that Flames General Manager Jay Feaster's intent is to keep Iginla and have him finish his career in Calgary.  Discussions with Iginla's agent Don Meehan will be occuring during the season according to Feaster.

It sounds as if both Iginla and Flames management would like Jarome to remain with the organization throughout his career.  The asking price of Meehan and Iginla will have to be taken into account however, as well as how well Calgary performs through this season.

Outlook
Expect Iginla to sign with the Flames, at a reduction in his current annual salary, considering age and production levels.
